Routine microbiological services are provided by the Department on Week days from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and on Saturdays from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Microbiological Services include:
Bacterial cultures of clinical specimens and antibiotic sensitivities.
Mycobacterial cultures of clinical specimens.
Fungal cultures of clinical specimens.
Serology for Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
Research projects
1. Role of fine needle aspiration in the diagnosis of Tuberculous lympadenitis: on going prospective study - A collaborative research project with Department of Pathology, FOM.
2. Optimal detection of causes of acute febrile illness, including Zoonotic and vector borne pathogens in Sri Lanka: A collaborative research project with Duke University, USA.
Publications
1. Guidelines in antimicrobial usage.
