Department of Community Medicine


The department of community medicine is responsible for teaching, researching and provision of services for the perspective of the discipline of community.The department does undergraduate training in public health and provision of primary health care in the community. This involves in studying Epidemiology, Demography, Nutrition, Environmental health, Statistics, Behavioral Sciences, Family Health, Occupational Health, Prevention of diseases and Research methods. The academic staff of the department has experts in the fields of Community Medicine, Nutrition, Behavioral Sciences, Medical Statistics, Community Ophthalmology and Epidemiology. The academic staff contributes to teaching of under-graduate students including overseas students and training of post-graduate students in various components of community medicine and research. Teaching is done through lectures, tutorials, assignments and community clerkship. A major of teaching is covered by community based learning through Community Attachment Programme (CAP)
