COVID-19 Management Call Centre

Faculty of Medicine starts 24 –hour COVID-19 call centre to assist the Covid-19 patients in Southern province
Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna has started COVID-19 call centre on 2nd September 2021. The COVID-19 call centre is established under the guidance of Senior Prof Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ruhuna on the request made by the Ministry of Health.
The introductory programme was held at Prof . T.W Wickramanayake auditorium, Faculty of Medicine with the participation of Prof Vasantha Devasiri, Dean, Faculty 0f Medicine, Prof Sampath Gunawardena, President, Galle Medical Association, academic staff, medical students and officials from the Ministry of Health.
24 hour COVID-19 call centre is located at the Faculty of Medicine. The Call centre is operated by medical students under the supervision of academic staff, Faculty of Medicine and medical officers attached to the Ministry of Health.
The call centre will direct COVID-19 patients to a treatment centre or home-based care depend on their condition. The process is based on SMS and over the phone services. The call centre could also make arrangements for 1990 Suwaseriya paramedic ambulances to pick up the suspected patients.


Those who tested positive for COVID-19 in Southern Province and are undergoing home-based care are urged to send a text message to the hotline 1904, informing their current health status.

The public can simply send an SMS to 1904 classifying the patient’s health status under the following categories.


A – COVID-19 patients with breathing difficulty
B – COVID-19 patients with symptoms (fever)
C – COVID-19 patients with no symptoms
