The 18th Academic Sessions and 17th Vice Chancellor’s Awards – 2021 of University of Ruhuna was successfully held on the 3rd of March 2021 under the theme ‘together towards excellence.’ at Prof. T.W Wickramanayake auditorium at the Faculty of Medicine under strict health guidelines. The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of Allied Sciences & Faculty of Medicine.
Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ruhuna, graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest. Professor Shaman Rajindrajith, Professor of Paediatrics Unversity of Colombo delivered the keynote address titled “Building a Research Culture in Sri Lanka ” and the oration was delivered by Dr. R.H.M.P.N. Rathnayake, on “Menopause; a significant milestone in women’s life” in the presence of the distinguished gathering, comprising the Most Venerable Akuretiye Nanda thero, Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Prof. Saman Chandana, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, all Deans of the faculties, senior professors, professor emeritus and key non-academic staff members.
The conferment of Emeritus Professorships to Prof.(Mrs.) K D C E Liyanage , Prof. Ranjith Senaratne , Prof. S G J N Senanayake , Prof. W G D Dharmaratne , Prof.(Mrs.) M V Weerasooriya was among the highlights of the inauguration.
17th Vice Chancellor’s Awards and Best Presenter awards for 17th Academic Sessions were awarded at the inauguration ceremony. 87 oral presentations under nine themes were delivered in nine hybrid, technical sessions. Under four themes, 36 poster presentations were delivered. Nearly 50 evaluators participated in the evaluation.
